Advocacy | Pamana para sa Bayan

Globe Telecom and Philippine Eagle Foundation has proven that synergy with the private sector and Groups such as PEF can be attained. During the Philippine’s Independence Day, a Marvelous National Symbol named Pamana, was released into it’s Natural Habitat in Mt. Hamiguitan in Davao Oriental.
Globe Business continues to manifest its commitment to the sustainability and conservation of our Bio Diversity with its partnership with PEF. According to PEF, the Philippine Eagle (Pithecophaga Jefferyi) is listed in the international Union for Conservation of Nature as a “Critically Endangered” or experiencing extreme Fluctuating Population and the possibility of future generations not seeing them in the wild. With an estimate of 1,000 individual eagles remaining for they are hunted for poaching and for individual pleasure.

During the Media Launch, I though Pamana grew up with PEF but sad to say she was rehabilitated for having wounds caused by an attempt poaching.

PAMANA BACK STORY

In 2012, Pamana was retrieved in Iligan City, turned over to PEF after suffering with two (2) gunshot wounds: On the left breast and on it’s left wing. It was immediately taken to Philippine Eagle Center in Davao City where it was treated until full recovery for Three Years.
Pamana was deemed to be a target for a frustrated poaching. Talons could fetch up to 200USD a pair, Other parts such as Feathers, Wings and Head are also sold in the Black Market, where in fact the whole body could range up to 1,000USD.

On the other hand, PEF Director, Dennis Salvador, acknowledged that “We are glad to have partnered with Globe Business in protecting the Environment in this side of the country. taking care of Pamana as well as our environs ins Mindanao together for Three Years is a proof to everyone that it is possible to have synergy between the private sector and groups such as the PEF for the Higher Good of our Environment”.

HOW TO SUPPORT THIS GOOD DEED

Nikko Acosta – Globe Vice President for Enterprise Group Agreed that This Year Globe Business will Continue to support PEF through an additional 500,00PHP grant in the aforementioned areas of work to ensure that more Philippine Eagle like “Pamana” can acquire rehabilitation and eventually set out to the natural environment when the time is right.
