Manila, Philippines – Cuervo Pilipinas has named the ten contestants competing at the Jose Cuervo Dons of Tequila Philippine Finals happened in URBN Bar and Kitchen, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig on July 24, 2015. The ten mixologists will vie for the chance to represent the country in the global search for the next hero of tequila who has what it takes to continue the legacy of the 250-year-old brand but only one soul has emerged! Is the first challenge of its kind, national winners from the Philippines and sixteen (16) other countries will have the chance to be named the next Don of Tequila in a grand final event at La Rojena, Mexico. The winner will bag the prize of a lifetime: their own crop of agave on the Jose Cuervo estate in Tequila, Mexico and 500 litres of their own bespoke blend of Jose Cuervo tequila, labelled under their own name.
The ten contestants who will battle it out for a shot at the ultimate prize in tequila are Don Andy (Draft Gastropub, BGC), Angelica Castro (Simply Thai Restaurant, Makati), Christian Uy (The Butcher Pub and Shop, BGC), Christopher Jay Generao (Freelance Mixologist), Dan Iran John Wico (Independent Bartender), Jan Rhea Grageda (Rose G Bicol Cuisine), Magiting Bautista (Round One, Quezon City), Mark Marquez (Vask Modern Tapas and Gastronomic Cuisine, BGC), Mark Tolentino (Niner Ichi Nana, BGC), and Robert Patriarca (Café Lupe, Antipolo).
BECOMING THE NEXT “DON OF TEQUILA”
“We received hundreds of fantastic entries but chose these applicants as the ones that best represented the creativity we were searching for,” shares Charles Wright, Senior Commercial Manager – Southeast Asia and India for Jose Cuervo International. “Becoming a Don of Tequila is the ultimate accolade that must go to the best so it will be exciting to see how the bartenders respond during what will be a tough national final.”
The hopefuls will compete against each other in the national finals judged by no less than the Dons of Tequila Mentors – veterans in their field and true Instigators – Prive Luxury Club’s cocktail bartender and Diageo Reserve World Class 2014 winner Jerry Miranda, T.G.I. Friday’s Genrev Bacasno, who bagged second runner-up honors at the 23rd Annual World Bartender Championship, and celebrated personality Divine Lee.
Jerry, Genrev, and Divine will single out the finalist who has the creativity, technical knowledge, and personality to hold the title Don of Tequila – Philippines and raise the flag in the Jose Cuervo Dons of Tequila Global Finals. Aside from the Philippines, the Dons of Tequila competition is running in the following countries: France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Greece, UAE, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Puerto Rico, Argentina, Chile, New Zealand, Korea, Japan and Cyprus. The Philippine winner will go up against the best-of-the-best in the Jose Cuervo Distillery, La Rojeña, in Tequila, Mexico for a final global showdown where they will be put to the ultimate test in front of the true Dons of Tequila.
